A little background information on Sellwood

Situated on a bluff that overlooks the Willamette River in the Southeast section of Portland, the Oregonite neighborhood of Sellwood is located roughly five miles south of downtown Portland. Sellwood was finally incorporated in 1887, then incorporated into Portland in 1889, and finally annexed in 1893.

Locally run businesses “cultivate a self-sustaining atmosphere” in the area. It is upon these businesses that the neighborhood thrives. Food carts litter a gravel lot on the corner of 13th and Southeast Lexington streets. Within walking distance along that same road, one may find a vast selection of eateries, from teahouses to patisseries, from Southeast Asian cuisine to Italian-inspired dishes. The Sellwood Riverfront Park is a place for dog lovers to let their pets run free. The Sellwood Park has a view overlooking the Willamette River and Sellwood Bridge. Oaks Park is a continuously-operating amusement park, one of the few in the U.S. It was built as a tribute to the expedition of Lewis and Clark. Visitors to the area can enjoy a tour “Walking in Sellwood-Westmoreland,” a 3.8-mile route that features the urban as well as the natural features of the town.
